The Pirate Loop Webcomic Adaptation…
Ok, so some if not most of you may know that we here at the Who-Philes do webcomics. Most likely you found Who-Philes because you are a reader of my friend, Steve’s comic Dueling Analogs. Myself I do Bored and Evil along with Robert Koch (who created Bored and Evil. Over my tenure at the comic I have thrown in some subtle and not so subtle references to my favorite TV show. All this got me thinking. Since I had a lot of Doctor Who artwork already done, why not adapt one of the books for fun? So that’s what I did one night this week. I decided to do The Pirate Loop by Steve Guerreir mainly because it had Martha in it and I already had Martha artwork done. That and I loved the space badgers. So what follows are four strips that I did in the vein of the teaser for the show. And just a little disclaimer: I only did this for fun not to make money or anything like that. Anyway enjoy what I’ve done after the jump.

Aww hell yeah…you better keep going with this. Pirate Loop is one of the best new novels (Martha in the Mirror is the only one I like more) and I really want to see how you interpret some of the characters.

Well, Mrs. Wingsworth and Gabriel should be easy enough. It’s the badgers that I think will be a challenge. I can’t make them too big or they will fill up the panels. Plus all the body parts are separate and I just mix and match to get my desired poses. I didn’t have much for Martha and the Doctor because they are just revamped versions of already created characters from “Bored and Evil” (Holly and Ricky specifically). But it should be fun.

Love the comic, Richard! Sorry I haven’t been around to comment lately.
On the TV front, the Mirror and other sources are reporting this morning that among the final monsters the Tenth Doctor will face will be Martians!!! It’s unclear whether this means Ice Warriors or some other creatures indigenous to the Red Planet, but the story they are to appear in will also reportedly feature ex-soap actor Peter O-Brien and Gemma Chan as villains.
If this really is the return of the Ice Warriors, I’m overjoyed. On the other hand, if these rumors refer to Tennant’s final, two-part (or, according to outgoing producer RTD, a two-parter with strong connections to the “one-off” before it - ala UTOPIA or TURN LEFT and their respective two-part finales) story, it would appear less likely that the whole Gallifrey/last of the Time Lords angle will be tied up. Hard to imagine the Daleks playing such a key role in Gallifrey’s destruction, but not being part of the story where it’s revealed that the Time Lord homeworld is still around. Unless my earlier theory was correct - that the Time Lords simply hid Gallifrey by shifting it “out of phase” in time & space, and purposefully didn’t tell the Doctor.
