Doctor Who Proms…

sontaran-proms.jpg
So yesterday saw the television premier of Doctor Who at the Proms. For those of you not in the UK, the proms is a series concerts. The proms was originally held in July and broadcast live on BBC Radio. The show was hosted by Freema Ageman with an appearance by Catherine Tate. The televised show featured only the music from Doctor Who while the concert also featured other pieces of classical music that you might find on the Doctor’s mp3 player. Having heard the original broadcast, it was nice to what was actually happening in the Royal Albert Hall. During some segments of music the Cybermen, Ood, Sontarans, Judoon and others made appearances. I was particularly amused at the Judoon (sans helmet) that was scanning the kids. The daleks at one point take over and Davros himself rose up a lift in the middle of the auditorium to taunt the audience and force them to listen to dalek music. And of course they had to have a small feature called Music of the Spheres that had the Doctor interacting with the audience in the arena. Again having just seen the original video it was fun to see how it was played live. And the music… just top notch. If you get the chance, try to find the original broadcast that featured the classical works as well. I listen to it in my car all the time. Another thing too… I’ve been to just about every major arena in the United States. From Madison Square Garden, to the Core States Center, to well, a lot. And I don’t think any of them are as large as the Royal Albert Hall. I mean, geez, you can fit most of the population of Canada in there! Anyway, if any of you had the chance to actually go to the proms, we’d like to hear about your experience. You know the deal, comment away.

Also, remember they are going to announce who will be number eleven tomorrow. Thanks to dkrouskop for the heads up.

The show was awesome to see definately, and I might look up the radio transmission

Now, we want a forum! or at least I do.

Well honestly given my past experiences running forums I’m not to keen on them. They have a tendency of becoming full time jobs moderating and deleting all the spam-bots. Plus there are so many forums out there already. But keep telling your friends about Who-philes, spread the word, and maybe once we really start ringing in the hits we’ll set up a forum (but don’t quote me on that, that’s up to the Master… webmaster that is :op)

Haven’t had a chance to see the Proms yet, but it’s on the docket. Thanks, Richard, for the nod regarding the 11th Doctor announcement. I just wish tomorrow would hurry up and get here!

BTW, David Tennant is quoted in a clip from THE 11TH DOCTOR saying that he is “very jealous of the chap who is coming in next”, and referring to the next Doctor as a “he”. Unless the BBC knows something that Tennant doesn’t, I’d say that’s a pretty solid clue that the 11th Doctor won’t be a woman.

No prob. I can’t wait either, but I’ll be at an audition at the time “DW: Confidential” airs. Not to worry though, I do have it covered…

BTW, Robert Koch (another contributor to the site) mentioned to me earlier that he heard that the guy who played the Operative in Serenity (sorry, I can’t say his name let alone spell it…) was high up there on the short list. It was the first I had heard of it. I’d be all for it if he got the role…

I can’t say Chiwetel Ejiofor, either… though I suppose I’ll have to learn if he turns out to be the guy! Very capable actor with a lot of stage presence, so I certainly wouldn’t be disappointed. Personally, I’m leaning toward Paterson Joseph at this point. Guess we’ll find out tomorrow.

BTW, should you ever decide to create a forum, I’d be happy to volunteer my admin services!:)

Well, I’m now listening to the radio broadcast :)

and for the love of god, even though it’s just such a small chance, let it be Richard Hammond to play the next Doctor :D it would make my day! and year! and life :)
