Riddle Me This, Riddle Me That, Tennant Next To Take On The Bat?

Tennant as the Riddler

With The Dark Knight getting ready to open nation wide this Friday, MSNBC contributor, Christopher Bahn wrote a story about the pros and cons of Batman’s rouges for a possibly (probably) third installment. He discusses which characters would probably fit in Christopher Nolan’s “Bat-Universe”, which would strain credulity, and which just would be absolutely ludicrous. When talking about the possibility )and probability) of The Riddler being the caped crusader’s next foe, Bahn wrote that current Doctor, David Tennant has expressed interest in the role. First I have to say, “Freakin’ brilliant!” And being from the UK could help David’s chances (as most of the cast in Nolan’s Batman films are British…). However, Tennant is not a known name over here in the States and that could hurt his chances drastically. Let’s face it, he’s mainly known for his cameo role as the villain in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. However, as that movie was also made by Warner Bros., let’s hope that could factor in some points to get Tennant up against Christian Bale.

Boy, did that last sentence sound like something that Jack Harkness would wish for…

    I’d love it!

He is known for his work on Doctor Who here too. I think he would be well received as the Riddler. He’d certainly be better at it than Jim Carey was. Shudder.

sarah are you crazy jim carey was the riddler. I think tennant would make a fine go at it though, mabye come close to as good as carey.

No… Going to have to disagree there. Carey was an over the top clown, and not in a good way. Tennant, I think, could bring depth to the role - including the fact that Edward Nygma is psycologically addicted to his riddles. Even when he tries to avoid them, he can’t help but subconcously (yea, yea, sp) putting them into his crimes.

I think Jim Carey was the true comic version of the Riddler. But, I prefer the way that Batman: The Animated Series portrayed the Riddler better.

If Tennant was the Riddler, I think he would pull it off really well. But for it to really work he would need to be almost a recluse hacker type character that never leaves the his room only lit by computer screen and you never see his entire face or body at anytime. He could have flash mobs carrying out his crimes so he never had to go anywhere.

Jim Carrey was a better Riddler than Val Kilmer was a Batman… :P

But David Tennant as the Riddler would be inspired casting.

I’d see the movie, just to see Tennant play the Riddler. Considering Two Face, The Riddler, and the Joker are my favorite batman villains.

Of course, Tennant as the Riddler would be fantastic, but I’m not going to invest much energy hoping it will happen. First, DARK KNIGHT’s likely success will have many actors lining up to play the antagonist in the next entry, so the competition will be fierce. Second, I’m rather hoping Mr. Tennant will give us one more full season as the Doctor, and signing on for another year might make scheduling a feature film shoot difficult. It’s unlikely Warner Brothers will welcome scheduling conflicts with a British TV series.

I have to agree with anyone here who thought Carey was a bad choice. He has a tendency to always revert to fire marshal bill when he’s being funny.
Carey is a great actor. (at times) but i found that to one of the worst batman films ever!
I think the good Doctor would do a fine job.
    This question needs some thought.
Who would be the ideal Riddler? Hmmm..

From the majority of internet phenomenon I have read there are only two people that are being considered for the Riddler, one being Tennant and the other, whom I must proclaim my distaste for such a role, is Johnny Depp.

Depp may be a good actor and I understand that they wish for an actor with a name for himself worldwide however I feel Depp’s part in the film would ruin it for me.

The same for the rumours of Angelina Jolie as Cat woman.

These two actors may be well known but seriously, is there any need for them to ride off of the hype of this film series?

Also, the author of this obviously hasn’t followed Tennant’s career in the UK over the last decade.

I would absolutely love to see David cast. His acting is so phenomenal and I think that he would make a brilliant Riddler. Drawing from the brilliance he brings to the Doctor and the crazy side of Barty Jr., he could really nail the psychopath, otherwise known as the Riddler.

Wow. It’s amazing how easily I can see him fitting into that role.

I would love it i hope it is true he was very good at portraying the emotional side of the doctor in doctor who. He is better than the other choice for the role (Jonny depp) Who doesnt do well in emotional storys. He sucked in charlie and the chocolate factory as he portrayed his as an insane man with a bad childhood.

I hope Tennant does get the role he would be perfect to square off against batman and still portray the charecters feelings aswell.

If Tennant is in the film as the riddler i hope we have only the one villain to portray his side of the story aswell as 2 villains in the second film was pushing it to say the least and two-face only had a limited amount of screen time.

Also if riddler is in then third NO CATWOMAN it would ruin the seriousness of the films.

I think he’d be a great choice. He’s a phenomenal actor and he is more well know over here than some think…

I think no-one could play that role (apart from Jim Carrey, of course)!
David Tennant would be just perfect!
I really wish to see him in the movie!

I think the author is incorrect to think that Tennant isn’t well known in the US: to many in the US, he is THE Doctor. While many remember Tom Baker et al. from PBS long ago, many Who fans in the US aren’t even aware of the orinal serials, and Tennant is who they identify.

Anyway, I would nerdgasm if he were cast. It would be perfect.

Tennant looks more like Mad Hatter XD But then again, would BE a better Riddler. They should save Depp for if they ever do the Hatter. LOL. And what the heck is with that villains rating list?! They’re missing Poison Ivy, Freeze, Mad Hatter & Hush. Hush maybe not so much, but the 1st three are well known. I wonder why they weren’t included and rated for likelihood of making it into the Nolan Batman series. :(

OMG, I would love to see Tennant play the riddler he is amazing. People in the states know him as the Doctor to. Besides, this could be his big breaking movie that gets him seriously noticed in the states. I’ve seen lots of David Tennants movies, he is AMAZING, hope we do get to see him in this role.
