Turn Left Discussion…
Who hasn’t looked back at their life and wondered, “What if I did this instead of that?” ” What if I said no instead of yes?” “Would my life have been better if I hadn’t gone out with that girl from the movie theater?” (Okay, this last one may be a bit too specific for some…) Well that’s what this week’s episode is about. What would have happened if Donna had made one wrong decision.
Trough alien intervention, Donna makes a decision that would mean she would never work her temp job. She never met Lance, therefore never had a wedding day to be transported to the TARDIS. Instead the Doctor is killed instantly when fighting the Rancoss. Martha Jones and Sarah Jane Smith are killed when the Judoon take the hospital to the moon. The Starship Titanic crashes into Buckingham Palace and destroys London. The Noble family are refugees who have to live in a small house in Yourshire with several other families. And we have the return of Rose who apparently had some dentistry done in “Pete’s World” because she has an odd, whispering lisp (and her teeth look much larger…). Rose it turns out has been travelling to all the parallel universes. She sees that Donna is the key to everything. When all is said and done it the Doctor comes to this realization as well. Everything that has happend between the two of them has to be more than coincidence. All in all a good episode and one that really showcases Catherine Tate’s dramatic acting ability. She really has come a long way from the overbearing, screeching loudmouth we met in The Runaway Bride. What do you guys think>

Wow, Davies actually pulled this one off very well. Color me impressed.
Now I’m way too excited for the next episodes….

My excitement about the return of Rose Tyler was tempered by her newfound speech impediment.
While this may earn me the ire of some, I feel that this (Rose’s return) is a classic example of a problem found everywhere on TV: they just don’t know when to let people die, or in this case be trapped in a parallel dimension for eternity.
But yes I was happy to see her none the less.

Only found the speech problem annoying at the first part, for the rest of the show it is not so bad. And now it gives more reason why she cry so much in the first few episodes( she care for her world around her in the real world but in the “right” world she much more self center and only care about her self.)
Her crying side is still done over the top in first few episodes just to be a contradection to this episode.

Well, the thing that I am trying to understand, is why would have the doctor died without Donna being there to help him. I rewatched the episode, and I dont see any clues to it. The doctor wasnt even planning to going to earth at the time as this happened. So I see no reason for his death. The other things I could agree with, except for captain jack being left on some other planet. When did that happen?

Eric -
The point was that without Donna there to stop the Doctor, something bad COULD’VE happened that led to his death. In the case of this episode, we assume something horrible happened to him in the process of drowning the Racnoss. And as for him not planning on going to Earth - Think about this: if Donna was not the vessel, then someone else could have been, and therefore they could’ve been transported to the TARDIS.
And as for Captain Jack…Remember when, at the very end of The Poison Sky, the little nerdy kid finally redeemed himself by transporting to the Sontaran ship and destroyed it? Well, Torchwood probably wasn’t as nice to him as the Doctor was, so he never would’ve thought to jump in the transporter. Therefore, that job went to Jack. Unfortunately I can’t think how he got to their home world, but there you go.
Sontar Ha!

Honestly, all of this talk about Rose’s “speech impediment” baffles me. So she has a little lisp? It isn’t as though she was an eloquent speaker before. I’ve watched TURN LEFT and THE STOLEN EARTH multiple times, before and after reading all of the complaining about Rose’s speech patterns, and nothing about the way she talks in those episodes has bothered me in the least.

There were a few scenes where she didn’t look and sound like she used to. Still, Rose is Rose.
Good story, but took far too long to tell it. I fast forwarded parts (yay TiVo). I like the character of Donna, but not Catherine Tate.
Missed the OGR in this episode…maybe when I was fast forwarding through the bits that didn’t matter.
