Planet of the Ood Discussion…

The Ood Is the BBC throwing real money at Doctor Who now? Because the visuals in this episode were beautiful.. and bit creepy. For those of you who don’t remember, the Ood are a race of aliens that are basically slaves. When we first meet the Ood in Series Two’s The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit we are told that they are not much more than cattle. And this being the Doctor Who universe you kind of accept that. In Planet of the Ood we learn that they are a very intelligent and peaceful race that have been taken advantage of by humanity. Humanity it seems breeds them, keeps them locked in captivity, and mutilates them in order to make them subservient. All in all it is quite a heavy episode.
Donna doesn’t get all bossy or screechy in this episode which is nice. There’s the “evil” corporation cliche that has been done to death. Especially since it was done in the first episode this season. There’s a bit I found quite funny, though other’s may disagree, in which an Ood impersonates Homer Simpson, and there may be an allusion to what’s in store for the Doctor. “All songs must end…” Paging Mr. Roth….

I dunno - if what’s outside an Ood’s body was outside my body, I’d want something to protect it…

Seriously, what kinda evolutionary decision was that?

Im tired of Donna. all she does is mess things up and make work harder for the doctor. Rose and Martha never really did anything of that sort. its frustrating. I feel like just telling her to shut up and listen to the doctor. I liked the episode alot. I liked the special effects and the whole story.

“all she does is mess things up and make work harder for the doctor”

Does she? I have a feeling she’s a more independent thinker than Rose and Martha were and she sort of keeps the Doctor in check, which is a welcome plot element in my book. I must say I’m liking her so far.

@Negrin I think this video says it all:

I actually liked Donna in this episode. I’m really curious though as to how her character is going to develop because I have a feeling she’s going to be going to some dark places. Maybe something akin to Anakin turning to the Dark Side or something.

She may be an Independent thinker but isn’t that a BAD thing when you have no idea what your doing?
Im glad that their bring Martha back next episode even if it is for just one episode. Donna seems like shes not ready for whats going on and just a lost little child. She aggravates me.

Without the benefit of hearing how you would say that (inflection of each word), I have no idea of whether you were supporting or sarcastically saying ‘oh pl___lllllease’ to her opinion after watching this video (in its entirety). :-)
I will say that the beginning portion of it, showing Donna from The Runaway Bride (not her finest hour), does help make the case for Daniel’s aggravation… but contrarily, she’s toned it down considerably since then (IMHO).
And I just loved the line (and how Catherine Tate delivered it): We’re so not married! Simply brilliant.
All-in-all, no matter what your feelings are for Donna or for this episode, it just makes us more anxious for The Sontaran Stratagem… I can’t wait!

I think in the end, Donna’s just gonna be one of those companions everyone hates, sadly enough. But not all the companions are gonna be great. SFX Magazine had a sidebar article talking about the most despised companions.

Yes i agree with Annette she has toned it down but shes just to emotional and dramatic for me. i forget really but has she cried or nearly cried in every episode? i have a feeling she has. I could be wrong and she just gets all angry. I can talk for days about how she annoys me. apologies.
