Fan Made Reconstructions…

Until the early 70’s, the BBC had a policy of erasing their tapes of their shows so they could reuse the videotape for something else. Sadly this means that there is a lot of lost Doctor Who material. It really affected Troughton’s era quite a bit as there are only a few totally complete serials. However, the audio exists for all the serials thanks in some part to people who recorded the audio from their television (this was the days before the VCR). For the release of some of the Doctor Who DVDs, the BBC has tried to reconstruct the various episodes using the audio and still pictures taken on set, a few remaining filmed elements, even resorting to Flash animation to recreate the episode. Now thanks to the advances in technology the fans are now making their own reconstructions. Using computers, animation, toys, CGI. Personally with the advancement of CGI animation used in films like Beowulf I think it would be brilliant if they recreated the episodes like that. Doubt it will ever happen, but who knows?
