In the first of a series of little known (to most) Who trivia is a tidbit about the greatest band of all time, the Beatles. According to the Doctor Who BBC site, the Fab Four were originally slated to make an appearance in the first Doctor serial ‘The Chase’ playing themselves as old men. The appearance was later shot down by the Beatles manager Brian Epstein. They are replaced by recycled footage of a British television performance of ‘Ticket to Ride’. When Barbara turns off the recording, the Doctor replies ‘You squashed my favorite Beatles.’ What could have been a historic pairing of two top English icons reduced to a bad pun.
