Doctor In Distress…

“Doctor In Distress” by Who Cares I came across this little known “jem” the other day. In 1985 was the year of “charity singles.” We Are The World, Do They Know It’s Christmas, groups of musicians coming together for Live Aid, Band Aid, Farm Aid, Lemon Aid (okay, I made that last one up…). However, a group of musicians and actors got together to save something we all know and love: The Doctor. The BBC suspended production on Doctor Who and it looked like it was not going to come back. So the actors from the show such as, sixth Doctor, Colin Baker, his companion, Peri, The Master as well as a number of musicians (including future Pirates of the Caribbean film composer, Hans Zimmer), put together a song that would help raise awareness to the Doctor’s plight. And so as not to be too self-serving all proceeds from the song were donated to cancer research. However the end result is about as embarrassing as Star Wars Holiday Special (or the prequels for that matter…). The song was so awful that Radio One refused to air it. As such it has never been released on CD. However someone found a copy and converted it to MP3 format. To have a listen click here.
