Don’t Watch “Spaced…”

Editor and Joan The Guardian has posted a story about the American version of Spaced being put together by McG of Charlie’s Angels fame. For those who may not know or remember, Spaced was created by Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes (Nee Stevenson). Pegg played the Editor-in-Chief in the 2005 episode of Doctor Who, The Long Game while Hynes appeared as Joan in the 2007 Hugo nominated two-parter Human Nature/Family of Blood.

According to the article (which can be read in full here) Pegg and Hynes are not involved with the production at all even though producers of the US version are using Pegg’s name with the project. Pegg admitted that he has no legal right to be involved with the project due to the original contract he signed. He has no objections to a US adaptation but would have liked to have been called. Hynes on the other hand has said in her saucy way, that she’d like to remake McG’s Charlie’s Angels films and call it Charlie’s Angle’s “about three female architects who love to design buildings, make biscuits and wear button-up cardigans.” She also called for a boycott of the show.

“Spaced” series one and two have aired on BBC America (though I can’t recall if they substituted the music or not) and the DVD is coming out in July. Read Quint’s interview with Simon Pegg here at Ain’t It Cool News.

They also aired it on Showtime for a spell a year ago.

I am not pleased with another “let’s butcher Brit tv, for North American”, it will not have the same feel at all. I am happy with my regular”Spaced”, in Canada they had it on Showcase. I don’t think they changed it at all, might of Bleeped it, but hey, better that than a rehash.

Sometimes it works, like “All In The Family”, “Sanford and Son”, “The Office”, and sometimes not, “Coupling”. I’d really like to see the US version of “Life On Mars” though. They made the pilot, but it wasn’t picked up.
