Doctor Who Nominated For Hugo Award…

Scifi.com has listed the nominees for this year’s Hugo Awards. Two Doctor Who episodes (or three if you want to be technical about it…) are nominated in the “Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form” category. They are Blink and Human Nature/Family of Blood. They are joined in this category by their sister production, Torchwood for the episode Captain Jack Harkness.

Personally I’m kind of torn. Both nominated episodes of Doctor Who I feel are some of the best the series has done yet. I love Blink because it is such a compelling and emotional story (and because it has Sally Sparrow ;o) ) and does what Doctor Who does best, frighten children in a fun way (you don’t think there was a single kid who didn’t look twice at a statue after seeing that episode). The two parter Human Nature/Family of Blood though had such a strong performance from both David Tennant, who admittedly I have only ever seen as Barty Crouch, Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Jessica Hynde who I only knew of through Spaced and Shaun of the Dead. If for some reason you have not seen this episode, watch it! Yeah it has about as many endings as Lord of the Rings: Return of the King but talk about some powerful performances.
