Julian Glover
He’s encountered the First Doctor and the Fourth Doctor. He’s gone up against Indiana Jones, James Bond, Harry Potter and has the unique distinction of being the only Imperial to not fail while under the command of Darth Vader. He’s Julian Glover.
Glover was born March 27, 1935 in Hampstead, England. While growing up he attended school with his future “commander, David Prowse, famous for portraying Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy. His first appearance in Doctor Who was in the William Hartnell serial The Crusade. In The Crusade. Glover portrayed Richard the Lionheart. Sadly most of this serial was junked back in the early seventies as the BBC did not save their shows indefinitely. Glover’s second appearance was as The Count/Skaaroth in the Fourth Doctor serial, City of Death. In this serial the Doctor and his companion, Romana have to stop an alien disguised as a human from stealing the Mona Lisa and creating a time machine to alter history.
Glover later went on to play General Veers, the AT-AT commander in The Empire Strikes Back (a role his son has voiced for subsequent videogames) along with another Doctor Who veteran, Michael Sheard (Admiral Ozzel). Glover and Sheard also appeared in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Glover playing wealthy tycoon, Walter Donavan, while Sheard had a cameo as Adolf Hitler. In 2002, Glover was the voice of Hagrid’s favorite pet, Aragog in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. A much in demand actor Glover currently has three productions currently in the works.
TRIVIA:
The suit Glover wore in City of Death was from his own wardrobe.
In The City of Death, Glover’s character the Count kills a scientist by rapidly aging him to death. Glover’s character in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade suffers the same fate.
